2% VAT TO ELIMINATE NATIONAL DEBT (P)

This has a whole bunch of what and but ifs to it, but if carried out correctly, (which means no branch of the federal government can touch it) could be a viable solution... I was watching Fox and Friends this morning and John Mumford, author of "Broke: What Every American Business Must Do to Restore Our Financial Stability and Protect Our Future" (that's a mouth full) was on
promoting what I feel is the most logical solution to eliminating our national debt and reversing our imminent financial ruin...

According to Mumford (and for the sake of argument I will accept his math) if there was an across the board 2% VAT or value added tax put into place that every penny (see why no government agency) went to paying off the national debt, combined with an amendment to the constitution which abolished deficit spending and required a balanced budget, we as a nation could be debt free in ten years... Then by law, the VAT would be repealed... Are you listening Washington, don't even think about continuing your entitlement spending... Oh, I almost forgot, by that time Glenn Beck's plan will have taken affect and you yahoos won't be doing anything but what "WE the PEOPLE" tell you to... No more "WE the Sheeple" you work for us... I almost followed that with "comprende" but then again we will no longer have to press #1 for English, live here, speak the language... UNDERSTAND?

As a 59 year old father and grandfather, I can't think of any greater gift I could pass on to my children and grandchildren than a country who by law must live within its financial means and most importantly is debt free... The president of this country will no longer have to globe trot apologising and kissing asses everywhere he goes, because once again we the United States of America will have taken our rightful place as THE GREATEST NATION ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH...

It's not going to be easy, but it is our moral duty not to pass this cluster f**k (don't get me wrong, it's still a far better cluster f**k than any other, but one none the less) that our country has become on to our children...

  1. We don't need a VAT, we just need the government to stop embezelling money. We need congressmen and senators that will vote for conservative principals. We need to LOWER taxes, we don't need to institute another tax. History proves that lower taxes allow businesses to invest and hire and actually increase revenue in real dollars to the federal government.

We could eliminate the deficit in ten years or less by simply having a government made up of a majority of people who follow Biblical principals of good stewardship.

Amending the Consitution is not going to work either, and it's not necessary. We need to all stand up for what is right - send most of the incumbants home in 2010 and vote only for people who have a conservative track record.

  3. Bro,

I'm going to have to side with Bob on this one. We don't need a new tax because we are Tax Enough Already!

What we need are responsible legislators that will put an end to ear marks and the huge amount of pork that is spewing out of Washington!

The money to fix these problems is already being paid, we just need to demand that they use our tax money more wisely.

Cleaning up the House amd Senate is imperative! Anyone who will not agree to a balanced budget has to go! Then we must do whatever it takes to fix the problem. A good start would be to STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE!!!!!!

I do agree that it would be morally reprehensible for us to pass this mess on to our children and grand'children!

  4. As we found out here in NC, there is no such thing as a "temporary tax". Our excessive local, state and federal taxes are what is fueling the vote buying and corruption. If the American people knew how much money is actually pouring into these agencies they would revolt. Its very easy to spend someone's elses money.
